A key component to our success is our network of program volunteers. With only 3 full-time staff and over 55 students in the school-year program, Beyond Walls relies heavily on our responsible, dedicated volunteers to help support day to day programming operations on the court and in the classroom. On the squash court, this will allow students to improve at a much faster rate than in a group setting by receiving positive feedback, praise, and one-on-one instruction. In the classroom, students benefit most from the increased attention of one-on-one tutoring. Volunteers can also participate by chaperoning weekend activities and by volunteering at events.
Please take a moment to review the opportunities for volunteering below and reach out to us with any questions or to get started. We look forward to seeing you at Beyond Walls soon!
Whatever your schedule, we’d like to find a way to include you in the program!
During the school year, squash practice is held from 3:30 until 5:45 pm, with additional practices occurring on Saturdays from 10 to 11:30 am. We are looking for volunteers with a squash background to help lead guided instruction on the courts.
During the school year, Beyond Walls academic sessions are conducted at the Recreation and Wellness Center Monday – Thursday from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. Volunteers work one-on-one with students in the classroom giving students guided support through homework help, testing sessions, life skills and college prep. We are looking for volunteers for either middle school or high school academics.
Volunteers also have an opportunity to help out during our numerous events. Events we have held in the past include: Beyond Walls Pro Squash Tournament, quarterly family events and various community service events.
If you are a returning Beyond Walls volunteer and would like to sign up for upcoming volunteer opportunities, please contact Nick Hedman at VISTA@beyondwallsmn.org.
